Release!

I have been exploring the word “release” and how one releases. I ask myself “what can I release?” As this summer gets hotter and fires burn through our forests I think about Mother Earth and what her rage looks like when she releases. It’s devastating and powerful. I am in awe. It’s necessary for her to release so that new growth can happen. It is natural. So in applying the same concept to women I wonder what new growth is possible when we release old beliefs, patterns, fears and ways of being that no longer serve us. What if we do it gently with intention, observation and completely judgment free? It seems this would be a healthy way to release rage-free.

We carry so much as women. We are complicated. We feel everything. We show up for our friends, family and community. Our emotions often control our thought patterns. It’s a lot to carry and so often we do not give ourselves space to let go. You have heard it before. “Take care of yourself first, so that you can take care of others.” I see this evening retreat as a self-care option and encourage those who choose to participate to be open to what might unfold.

Because I have focused my photography on photographing women for over ten years I see the transformation that tends to happen during the process of being real and vulnerable in front of the camera, especially in group scenarios where other women are present to support and hold space for each participant. There are so many layers that we have created to protect ourselves. I am curious to see what else is possible when we allow ourselves to let go some of these layers. I feel honored that women have trusted me to do this work with them.

As emotions run high with the 416 fire we would like to invite any woman displaced by the fire to participate in this event for free while space is available. Please come, connect and feel the support of a select group of women from your community.

This retreat will be held at The Fox Fire Farms Vineyard. They are closed to the public the day of the retreat, so we will have the space to ourselves to explore, play and be free.

Once you have confirmed your space more details will be sent via email.

With gratitude,

Kyla

Hey Kyla, Brian and I were talking about this and I told him how much I’d really like to be apart of this release. I hope there is still some available space. I will give you a call tomorrow. Thanks, Rachel
